Small Apartment Design Solutions: The Flix House Transformation by gon architects
The article showcases the Flix House by gon architects, a model for small apartment design solutions emphasizing space, light, and functionality in Madrid.
The Flix House, nestled in the heart of Madrid and designed by gon architects, exemplifies cutting-edge small apartment design solutions that blend functionality with style. Situated on the sixth floor of a building from 1900, this 42 m2 attic apartment redefines urban living through creative design and spatial optimization.

Architectural Strategy for Maximizing Space
Designing for Light and Space
Central to the Flix House design is the strategic use of light to enhance the sense of space. By incorporating additional roof windows and replacing the entrance door with a transparent glass one, the apartment enjoys increased natural light, making the compact space feel larger and more inviting.

Innovative Use of Mirrors and Glass
The bathroom's clever design features a mirrored cabin for the sink and toilet, alongside a glass-block shower wall. These elements not only serve functional purposes but also contribute to the spatial dynamics of the apartment, reflecting light and visually expanding the interiors.

Functional Zoning and Flexibility
A Multifunctional Layout
The apartment is ingeniously divided into four main areas, each serving multiple functions while ensuring fluidity and openness. From the bedroom/dressing area to the kitchen/living/dining space, the design fosters an environment where activities seamlessly blend, epitomizing efficient small apartment living.

Custom Furniture Solutions
The kitchen's compact laminated HPL ultra-matte yellow pale wall exemplifies the project's focus on custom furniture solutions that maximize storage without sacrificing style. This linear structure cleverly houses various household items, showcasing the potential of tailored designs in small apartment settings.

Sustainable and Aesthetic Material Choices
Emphasizing Durability and Design
The choice of a continuous porcelain floor and the selective use of materials throughout the apartment underscore gon architects' commitment to sustainability and aesthetic coherence. These choices not only ensure durability but also contribute to the apartment's overall minimalist and bright aesthetic.

A Blueprint for Small Apartment Living
The Flix House by gon architects stands as a testament to the potential of small apartment design solutions in urban centers. Through thoughtful interventions and a keen eye for detail, the project offers a blueprint for transforming limited spaces into functional, stylish homes that meet the demands of modern city living.
