Located near the Tamar Project center, a renowned sea turtle conservation site, the house embodies a harmonious blend of contemporary architecture and environmental consciousness.





With a layout structured around three independent blocks, the residence maximizes ocean views, natural ventilation, and thermal comfort while incorporating local materials such as stone, concrete, and wood. This architectural approach ensures a timeless connection between built space and nature.



Site and Context: A Coastal Retreat in Harmony with Nature
Situated on a 1,260 m² flat plot just 300 meters from the beach, the residence is surrounded by the unique regional flora of the Brazilian coastal restinga ecosystem. The design of the house prioritizes minimal environmental impact, allowing for an architectural language that respects the surrounding landscape while offering modern comforts.



By organizing the house into three distinct blocks—social areas, a private master suite, and guest/children’s bedrooms—the project ensures both functionality and privacy. The placement of these blocks follows the site’s topography, enhancing both natural light exposure and cross-ventilation.



Architectural Layout and Circulation Flow
The three programmatic blocks are arranged in a linear fashion and connected by a central circulation axis with half-level stairways. This innovative approach reduces the perception of traditional floor levels, making movement within the house feel fluid and interconnected.
- Social Block: The main gathering space includes a living room, dining area, and kitchen, which are seamlessly connected to the outdoors through retractable glass panels. This design choice transforms the entire social area into a large veranda, enhancing the connection to the pool, solarium, and garden.
- Master Bedroom Block: This block houses the primary suite on the ground floor, while the upper level features a study and an atelier, each offering contrasting views of the lush surroundings.
- Guest and Family Block: The final block accommodates additional bedrooms, guest suites, and service areas. Like the master block, it is structured over two levels with both front and rear views.
The use of partially sunken lower-level bedrooms enhances thermal comfort by maintaining stable indoor temperatures while also diversifying spatial experiences throughout the residence.



Materiality: A Blend of Tradition and Innovation
The House in Praia do Forte incorporates a palette of local materials, reinforcing its connection to the region while enhancing durability and sustainability.


- Local Stone Base: The foundation consists of natural stone, used for the pool area, solarium, entrance gardens, and retaining walls. This choice minimizes environmental impact and blends the house with the coastal terrain.
- Exposed Concrete Walls: Six 3-meter-high concrete walls, finished with a water-repellent treatment, define the primary architectural volumes. These walls extend beyond the interiors, integrating private gardens for each section of the house.
- Wooden Roof and Louvers: The final layer of construction includes wooden shading louvers and shingle roofs, which help regulate sunlight penetration and direct rainwater to a large central collection gutter for sustainable water management.


By combining these materials, the design achieves a balance between structural strength, thermal efficiency, and aesthetic lightness, allowing for a contemporary coastal retreat that embraces sustainability.
