With a little bit of collaboration, people can achieve the ultimate special moment that reminds us of the beauty and happiness of exploring the city and the people around us, like unforgettable memories of flowers blooming together at the same time.

The concept of BLOOMING is to create a magic moment in the busy everyday urban life, a system that everyone can use, but with a little bit of collaboration they can achieve the ultimate special moment, an unexpected joy that can always remind us of the beauty and happiness of exploring the city and the people around us, like an unforgettable memory of all flowers blooming together at the same time. The ultimate idea behind this concept is to break the boring and unchangeable public space, to give people more reasons or stimulations to use it, to make the daily tedious commute activities more fun and interactive with other people’s behavior. It also creates this inviting atmosphere on the streets that give everyone excitement to hang out together. It varies based on the context and can be renewed as time passed, to make it keep adapting to people’s need.

We create a series of interactive street furniture that can adapt itself once more and more people join it. Until all the units are filled with people, then a highlighting moment of fog effect will become the eventually surprise for all. The installation is composed of a unit system including a bench and a canopy. The canopy is the interactive part that varies depending on if there are people sitting on the bench. It has three modes- the start mode, the cover mode, and the highlight mode.
The BLOOMING moments
It can be placed on the sidewalk as two rows to give people something fun to do while waiting for buses, to hang out, to have seating areas, to create amusement, and to reward the social interactivity with highlighting effect; It is a very flexible unit system that can be composed into a larger and more complicated layout on a plaza or public gathering space, to become a more important public space highlighter; It can just be a place for one to seat by himself or herself to watch people come and go to feel the vibrant real life out of the internet, to be covered in the rain, to be lighted in the dark.
The BLOOMING facts
The key element of the module piece is a computer-controlled fabric fan that will open and close responding to pressure sensors integrated into the bench.
