EMBRACING THE TEMPORAL SCAR: “REVITALIZING POST-INDUSTRIAL LANDFORMS THROUGH ECOPOIETIC DESIGN”
This thesis reimagines an abandoned Navi Mumbai quarry as a healing ecosystem. Balancing urban growth and biodiversity, the project uses Rhino and Voronoi systems to integrate Miyawaki forests and wetlands into the terrain. The result is an evolving civic landscape where architecture is secondary, prioritizing natural ecological succession and resilience.

Located in Navi Mumbai, the site bridges rapid globalization and sensitive ecosystems like the Karnala Bird Sanctuary. Its history stems from a defining 1970s treaty between developers and farmers, driving growth but sacrificing Parsik Hill. To respect this fragile context, Voronoi patterns—predominantly found in nature—were used for form generation. As noted in the sheet, this organic system delivers immense adaptability, allowing architecture to seamlessly weave into the natural terrain.
The campus is thoughtfully designed as a highly inclusive environment, gracefully welcoming everyone from 10-year-old children to 80-year-old adults. Catering seamlessly to both local residents and tourists, every design choice is deeply rooted in site sensitivity. By thoughtfully leveraging the natural attractors present on the plot, the architecture carefully guides user movement to minimize human interference, perfectly balancing active public engagement with the fragile ecology of the land.
Microclimate analysis was utilized to deeply understand the site's environmental conditions. Over time, by evaluating thermal responses and air quality based on roof geometry, various materials were explored. With a comprehensive understanding of how the microclimate directly impacts indoor spaces, each unit was individually tailored. Consequently, the design incorporates varied roof forms and specific opening sizes to optimize natural ventilation and enhance the overall indoor spatial experienc
Derived from the organic Voronoi pattern, each architectural unit was meticulously crafted to respect the site's ecological sensitivity. The spatial layout and facade openings were strategically planned to ensure climate responsiveness and minimal environmental impact. By deeply integrating with the natural surroundings, every design decision thoughtfully responds to the immediate site context, creating a seamless and harmonious balance between the built interventions and the delicate landscape.
The vision of Viksit Bharat—the evolution of the nation, the adaptive spirit of its people, and their forward-looking intelligence—is boldly embodied within the museum's design. Its architecture is derived from a complex 3D Voronoi system, chosen for its immense efficiency in topographical adaptation and organic form generation. This structure integrates with the terrain, serving as a powerful spatial metaphor for India's progressive, resilient, and deeply knowledge-driven future.
