Theatre Lane

This left-over space above Theatre Lane becomes a site for this multi-generational house. Using the adjacent walls for support and enclosure, the architecture becomes service spaces for all to use, storage spaces, spaces to sleep, and places to live. The storage cabinets hold everyones personal effects, but can only be accessed by their owner.

An image of the Theatre Lane project with the existing buildings on either side removed. As it supports itself from those walls, and uses those walls to enclose itself, it appears as exposed, a shadow of the space available.Optional extensions toward the sun at the higher level are also shown.

This sequence of diagrams shows how the space in and around the laneway is identified as site for the housing project. The critical element allowing people of different generations to live together is the ability to share the same utilities, fixtures and furniture within the house while being able to separately store personal items.
