USeR

Many urban spaces around the world qualify as privately-owned public spaces, or P.O.P.S. Unfortunately, they are poorly designed and become dead zones, devoid of human activity. These spaces, however, have the potential to be transformed into engaging occupiable public spaces for the urban population to utilize as play space, areas of refuge, or beacons.

The proposed site is Mannady Street in the George Town area of Chennai, India. This street was chosen as a prototype unique to the Indian context characterised by its congested, bustling nature. Such streets can be found in every Indian city, especially in the metropolises and hence the proposed solution can be applied in these situations.

People are in a rush between their home and workplaces. They sometimes miss the opportunity to pause, look around and feel good. At this point in-between spaces (between home and workplace) in cities draw attention. Our concept is an in-between space which creates an escape point from daily rush.
