BRIDGING THE GAP: A TRANSFORMATIVE APPROACH TO ERNAKULAM’S WATERFRONT AND TRANSPORT NEXUS
The study investigates the current state of these crucial urban nodes, assessing their functionality, connectivity, and aesthetic appeal. By delving into the historical evolution of the area, urban planning principles, and public opinions, the research aims to identify key issues and opportunities for improvement. Proposed interventions involve a holistic approach to redevelopment, emphasizing the seamless integration of the Marine Drive Walkway, KSRTC Stand, and Boat Jetty. The thesis envisions a vibrant urban realm that accommodates diverse activities, such as recreational spaces, cultural hubs, and efficient transportation nodes. Special attention is given to sustainability and resilience, considering the ecological impact and climate resilience strategies for the waterfront. Through a combination of architectural design, urban planning strategies, and community engagement, this thesis seeks to contribute to the discourse on urban renewal. The reimagined Marine Drive Walkway, KSRTC Stand, and Boat Jetty hold the promise of becoming a model for sustainable, people-centric urban development, breathing new life into Kochi's waterfront and enhancing the overall quality of urban living.
