1Architecture and emotions: Dead spaces in citiesArchitecture triggers emotions in a person. The objective of the project is to analyze in depth how the complex relationship between architecture, space and emotion has developed within time. What would be the implications of an emotionally elicited atmosphere to create a holistic experience for the user in a space?
7Crematorium"Crematorium" is an Architecture Thesis project exploring the various dimensions of death and finally designing the spatial product that serves all those dimensions.
38Re-Imagining the Urban CrematoriumRe-thinking crematorium and cemetery design in cities where a secular approach is undertaken to understand the psychology of the mourner without any religious bias. Segregating public, making provisions for a public park and a contemplative park, the proposal looks to make such sacred spaces approachable and experiential being perceived as taboo spaces.
14A JOURNEY OF THE DEADThis proposal redefines the concept of a cemetery and tries to marry the concept of a public space with the place where the dead go to rest... It explores the cemetery as an active part of the urban fabric. It allows for the journey of death to take place in a a public space without interrupting the daily activity of a city and vice versa...
6Resonanting MemoriesChallenging the established structure of cemeteries, this project envisions new ways to mourn through resonating chimes holding the ashes of the deceased. Furthermore, cemeteries are no longer exclusive and traditionally ‘private’ but rather becomes a facilitator for socialising amongst those alive, and dead.
1Life pathLife and death are closely connected. The life path is an endless process from birth to the moment of physical death. Our project calls to think about how transient our earthly path is and how great this path is in afterlife.
2poetic dwelling Poetic Dwelling provides a resting place for the deceased. The process from ashes to fertilizer is completed in the hourglass-shaped central building, so that the deceased can return to nature and give birth to new life, thus completing the cycle of life. Independent funeral buildings that accommodate different religious beliefs.
2"BOX" VARIES In our design, the ashes will be used to nourish the potted plant that symbolizes the dead, so that each dead person will realize its second life. We hope that the deceased will make his own decision based on his own culture, beliefs and preferences. We have adopted a module with a variable structure and stacked these modules vertically.
5Honorable MentionBack To EarthThe idea of this project is to combine the burial process with the human body compost technology and create a landmark tower to present this process.
5Garden of ghostsYou dont need grave for mourning, you just need to know that somenthing from your close person is somewhere near.Everything in the garden is from deceased people. We can create water and soil from dead bodies. The water flows under the entire park and watering trees, the soil is is used as fertilizer.Humans body returns to to nature.Circle of life is closed.
2Life CircleThe cemetery space coexisting with nature is created after studying the death culture and exploring the boundary between space and nature. Space intervention is used to improve people’s fear of death and exclusion of death topics, and the ways to have emotional sustenance and recall are also deeply studied.
