Hi! Just a quick question regarding the submission material.
What exactly is the "Additional cover image of 2000px x 1000px"? Is this an image to be part of one of the three 2800px x 3500px sheets or will this be a separate sheet? What should be on this image?
Also, was the deadline extended? Last I checked it the submission was due Dec 28th.
Thanks,
Ray
Good day,
Is the exterior circulation area/ commun circulation area (hallway, stairs, etc.) are considered extensions and should be part of the 15% of the surface area of the 15 containers?
Thank you,
OB
I have a question about the “Additional Resources“ folder that is supposed to be visible once we login –I can't see it amongst the 12x other tabs. Thanks.
1. Are you saying there is no limit to the number of acceptable people? Is it better to accommodate as many people as possible?
2. Are 15 containers not classified (two size of container box)? Is there a fixed rate of using two things or should it be only one module?
3. It says that only less than 15% of the container area can use space made of other materials, is it 15% of the container's construction area of 15% of the total floor area? Are essential spaces like stairs included in spaces made up of other materials?
4. Is it possible to transform(Open one side, etc.) the container? If possible, how much is it possible? Can we use two containers together?
5. How does the journal ask questions? Is it provided?
6. Can we apply metric instead of inch?
7. It says that each image should not exceed 15MB, so do you mean the image inside the board or one board(whole board that you provided)?
8. I have confirmed that up to 3 containers can be stacked in layers, but is it possible to stack 3 containers in the same way even if the 1st floor is lined with filoti?
9. It says that more than 4 containers cannot be stacked together, and that they can be designed horixontally, so can't containers be placed vertically?
1. Are you saying there is no limit to the number of acceptable people? Is it better to accommodate as many people as possible?
A: This is based on your design, the limit is only on containers. Please build a judgement on how many people are best fit.
2. Are 15 containers not classified (two size of container box)? Is there a fixed rate of using two things or should it be only one module?
A: No fixed rate, 15 units, any of the sizes.
3. It says that only less than 15% of the container area can use space made of other materials, is it 15% of the container's construction area of 15% of the total floor area? Are essential spaces like stairs included in spaces made up of other materials?
A: 15% of total container surface. Yes staircase, bridges and other circulational elements are counted in this rule. The rule is rather recommendation and not absolute. Please use this as a thumbrule. The competition does not call for a traditional building fitted with containers, but a housing concept built mostly out of containers.
4. Is it possible to transform(Open one side, etc.) the container? If possible, how much is it possible? Can we use two containers together?
A: Yes you can open sides, we are not limiting this at any place at the moment.
5. How does the journal ask questions? Is it provided?
A: Journal questions can be found in the resource PDF.
6. Can we apply metric instead of inch?
A: Ofcourse Metric is awesome!
7. It says that each image should not exceed 15MB, so do you mean the image inside the board or one board(whole board that you provided)?
A: Whole board should be less than 15MB.
8. I have confirmed that up to 3 containers can be stacked in layers, but is it possible to stack 3 containers in the same way even if the 1st floor is lined with filoti?
A: What is filoti?
9. It says that more than 4 containers cannot be stacked together, and that they can be designed horixontally, so can't containers be placed vertically?
A: No vertical containers please.
Why are there so many rounds for prizes, and many different registration amounts?
Could you please explain the meaning of each round and what is needed for each?
Thank you
A: 15% of total container surface. While staircase, bridges and other circulational elements are counted in this rule. The rule is rather recommendation and not absolute, hence base can be seen beyond that to level ground with other terrain types. Please use this as a thumbrule. The competition does not call for a traditional building fitted with containers, but a housing concept built mostly out of containers.
hello, I want to say that I am enormously disappointed, to see that the members of the jury do not take account of the constraints announced on the contests, it is thus the last time that I would participate in a contest on this site. to argue my point, I would take container city as an example with a constraint:
1- 15 sea containers maximum, while on the selected projects, there were entire cities with container
2-additions and extension limited to 15%, while on the selected projects some have largely exceeded this limit.
3- 4 containers cannot be stacked on top of each other. some have built towers.
So if you do not take into account the constraints announced and you prefer to privilege the presentation instead of the design, and the respect of the specifications,
no longer offer constraints if they are of no use.
many were sanctioned because they applied themselves to meet the specifications that you posted online.
thank you for taking these remarks into account.
Completely support what you have mentioned. I withdraw from the competitions too. Also would like to mention that most of the entries haven't even mentioned how many students they are catering too. Huge areas and massive spaces designed to cater to handful of students. Are these proposals even viable from any angle?
I have already taken part in the previous "shelter" competition, and there too we see luxury hotels for a subject that deals with homelessness, projects in deconstrucivism which goes on to the next round, while the competition required ease and speed of construction to deal with urgent needs. and my doubts were confirmed on this contest, the site is no longer credible it has become a machine to make money for those who created it, even archdaily is no longer part of the prizes offered.
hoping that all these marks will be taken into account. I will no longer waste time and money on this platform.
Dear Ahmed, We understand the emotion behind the feedback. Its very unfortunate to know that you had a bad experience with our website and we want to know how can we do better. To make our position clear, projects in the shortlist do not have any connection to our website nor the creators have been endorsed with any special advantages. Every participating team is as real and has put in honest work like you must've too.
Particularly in the context of Container city, we were well aware this scenario may arise due to some special conditions in the brief. While we try as much as possible to ensure there is fair judging in the competition, for the first time we tried to open the scrutiny via a peer review system as well to ensure all the feedback like the ones you shared are also taken into account while making review process and not after the results are out.
https://uni.xyz/journal/new-update-appeal-period-desc-changes-to
This was emailed specifically to every participant entering into the competition to voice out if a project was out or in. We have mostly taken all the appeals in to consideration and found out many of them were true. A few of them were forced too.
If a project appealed against was still considered, we have left comment below the project on how and why the project made it.
Despite all of this effort, it sometimes is disheartening to know that it has left a feeling of bitterness within a valued member of our community. If you have any particular feedback or a project to report you can write to the competition control directly here: competitioncontrol@uni.xyz .
hello and thank you for having taken my words into account, I would like to point out that I have never questioned the method of running the competitions, I only emphasized the objectivity of the members of the jury who should first of all base their judgment as a priority on the application of the specifications then check the other points (presentation ...)the jury also had to pay attention to the openings (windows and bay windows) because the container is fragile, it cannot be pierced on very large openings as it weakens it and makes the superposition of the containers on top of each other fragile. we are not on design only, there is a very important technical aspect as well.
best regards ahmed

Hi Raymond, This image is separate - Its more like a project thumbnail an example can be this: https://uni.xyz/competitions/nano-nest/entries
Yes they were extended, Please follow the schedule page for the last date. :) Best
hi, Registration via pay pal is not possible from here. Can we use credit card for the payment of the fee?
Hi Ulku, Please use Razorpay.
Hi, I have some questions about the competition. 1- Can we use metric ? 2- Do we need a specific site for the project?
1. Yes you can use metric units - Its rather preferred 2. No you dont have to, it can be based on something hypothetical entirely.

Hi Phuc, Just refer to the current round. That is what active rewards are. Best Team Uni
Hi! Do we need to propose something for the three possible sites(land, water, grid) Or pick just one type of plot? Thank you
Also if one chooses to build on the water does the base count on the 15%?
