Ray Calabro, FAIA MRAIC is a principal in the Seattle studio of Bohlin Cywinski Jackson. Across a 26-year career with the practice, Ray has brought a depth of experience and great enthusiasm to a broad range of building types, leading teams in a collaborative process to achieve exceptional architecture, including civic and cultural destinations, innovative workspaces, academic buildings, retail experiences and private residences across the United States and Canada. Ray’s buildings engage the landscape using choreography and robust forms, while his approach integrates architecture, landscape, and interpretive design, resulting in experiences that intimately connect people to natural and man-made environments. Diverse examples include the Grand Teton Discovery and Visitor Center, winner of an AIA Northwest and Pacific Region Honor Award; a LEED Gold-certified headquarters for Nu Skin in Provo, Utah; and Boundary Point Cabin, a lakeside retreat in British Columbia recently featured in Dwell Magazine. A curatorial leader within the practice, Ray has been instrumental in the creation of its celebrated monographs, including its most recent publication Gathering. Ray frequently speaks at regional, national and international design conferences and serves as a design critic at schools of architecture and design around the country.
