Architect and Director, Squareworks

Katsushi Goto is practising architect/urbanist based on Mumbai and Tokyo, the director of design and research firm, Squareworks, Mumbai and a partner of architectural practice apartment co., ltd. Tokyo. Recently completed project #7 Southlands has been nominated for INSIDE award, World Architecture Festival 2018 and Dezeen Award 2018 for residential Interiors. He studied at Housing and Urbanism, Architectural Association, London. He was involved in the project on the Champaner-Pavagadh UNESCO World Heritage Site, Restoration and adaptive use of Jadhavgadh Fort, as well as several private projects in Tokyo, Mumbai. He has recently participated in BIENNIAL OF PUBLIC SPACE 2017 and 2019, Rome, presented the research, “Public Library as Urban Public Space” and UIA congress2017 in Seoul, presented the paper “Duality in Drawing - potential of discursive drawing responding to complex city”. His current research focuses on the domesticity associated with the materiality of ideal-family home and the intersection of politics of public domain and interior urbanism. He is working as senior assistant professor at Meiji University in Tokyo to programme and coordinate international workshops with seven institutions within Southeast Asia. He is visiting associate professor CEPT University, Ahmedabad, India. He is also founding member of SqW:Lab (https://sqwlab.com/) which is a research fellowship programme in Mumbai for cultural practitioners from all over the world.
