Diederik Fokkema

Founder & Partner, Fokkema & Partners Architecten, Netherlands

Diederik Fokkema studied at the University of Technology in Delft. After gaining experience in Amsterdam, he left for New York to work with Richard Meijer & Partners. As an associate partner he was responsible on site for the construction of City Hall The Hague, learning about the complexity of housing a large organisation. Once the project was finished in 1995 he established his own firm, Fokkema & Partners Architecten. At the time internet started to change the landscape of doing business dramatically and a revolution in business models was on its way. The implications on office planning and interiors was a key fascination for Fokkema & Partners, then and today. In the aftermath of the pandemic we are at another pivotal moment in time regarding the way we interact. Diederik Fokkema has been involved in the development of many innovative concepts, complete interiors, new buildings and renovation projects for public and private clients. To complement his architecture up to materialisation and detail, Diederik also established a design label: FOKLAb.

Nicolas Laisne

Director, nicolas laisné architectes, France

Nicolas Laisné founded his firm nicolas laisné architectes in 2005. The firm develops urban planning, architecture and interior design projects, from design to execution and site supervision. With his team of 40 people, based in Montreuil, he works for public authorities, as well as private players and individuals, in France and abroad. Through his open-mindedness, his natural curiosity and his taste for dialogue, Nicolas Laisné has multiple influences and limits the weight of dogma. His joined-up vision of architecture allows him to invite philosophers, agronomists, botanists, artists and even data scientists to his table. He puts together a new multi-disciplinary and international team for each project. His latest achievements and current projects (‘L’Arbre Blanc’, the ‘Arboretum‘ in Paris-La Défense, ‘Anis’ in the South of France…) bear witness to his desire to open up architecture. To create more space for all, including nature, in ever denser cities. To cater to new habits in society, and the way they so rapidly evolve. To make the sharing of space a joyfully convivial experience. Sensitivity, inventiveness and common sense enable Nicolas Laisné to resolve complex equations with accessible solutions. Open-minded and daring, his firm develops its projects on the international scene to accompany evolving urban lifestyles, wherever they may be.
