Estudio Cavernas is a social architecture non-profit organization committed to achieving sustainable construction in marginalized communities through the development of environmental and well-adapted architecture. Since 2015, Estudio Cavernas has worked in Mae Sot, Thailand, a border area that hosts a large population of immigrants and refugees facing precarious migration experiences, including habitation challenges, lack of infrastructures as well as quality housing. Juan Cuevas has led Estudio Cavernas since 2015, focusing on ephemeral architecture for migrants and refugees in the Thai Myanmar Border.

Salvador Reyes Ríos

Director - Founder, reyes ríos + larraín arquitectos, Mexico

Salvador received his degree in architecture from the Metropolitan Autonomous University of Mexico (UAM) in 1988. He received his masters degree in design and obtained the titles of Urban Specialization and Conservation of Real Assets (1996-1998) from the same university. His work in architecture includes restoration and remodeling projects of historic properties, design of private residences, public buildings equipped for social activities, and public and private buildings dedicated to tourism and culture. In 2000, he founded the Reyes-Rios+Larrain studio with Josefina Larrain, where they have completed works of restoration, remodeling, landscaping, furniture design and interior design for historic haciendas and mansions converted to luxury hotels, as well as modern private residences. It is renowned for the recreation of local ancient materials and building techniques that have contributed to the modern practice of architecture in its region. In 2017, Arquine publish the book “Place, matter and belonging” making it the first monographic about his 20-year work in Yucatan and other parts of Mexico.

Luis Diego Barahona Ortega

Director, LDB Arquitectura, Costa Rica

Master by the UPC of Barcelona. Founded LDB Arquitectura in 2000. Since then, he has designed more than 200 projects, among which are: Evertec Costa Rica, Evertec Panama, Municipality of Santa Ana, AutoStar, The Rising Sun Varieties Store, Human Development Center of Tirrases, Vigui Industries and Barrio Escalante Gastronomic Walkway. Winner of the “Save Our Architectural Heritage” Contest at 2019, Urban Design Award and ALPU Award in XIV Costa Rica International Architecture Biennial 2018, finalist of the City to City Barcelona FAD Award 2013 and winner of the “Second Collective Bonus Contest 2016” contest organized by the MIVAH. He has published six books and organized seven international architecture congresses. He was a delegate of the VII BIAU Medellín 2010. He has more than 100 articles in specialized media and was director of the Habitar Magazine (CFIA). He is currently a member of the Planning Commission of the College of Architects. He has been a guest speaker in: Costa Rica, Brazil, Guatemala, Colombia, Mexico and Spain. His work has been published in: Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Spain, Holland and China.

Jachen SchleichJachen Schleich

Jachen Schleich

Partner, Dellekamp / Schleich, Zurich

Jachen Schleich (1980), graduated at ETH Zurich in 2006, is partner at Dellekamp Arquitectos since 2013 (Dellekamp / Schleich since 2019). He worked at offices in Zurich, Lucerne and Barcelona before moving to Mexico City in 2007. His work has been part of the Venice Biennial, Chicago Biennial and the Quito Biennial. He was part of the final selection of the YALA “Young Architects in Latin America” during the Venice Biennial 2018. He gave lectures in different universities and conferences in Mexico and abroad. His concern about the environment is reflected in each project since he is part of the office. To him designing is a constant process of decision making based on values that fit to the context, the budget and the clients needs.

Rolando GirodengoRolando Girodengo

Rolando Girodengo

Principal, atelier uno, Mexico

Rolando graduated with honours from Tec de Monterrey on 2017. He did exchange programs with UC Berkeley and the Boston Architectural College and interned under Landa Arquitectos in Monterrey and TAX / Alberto Kalach in Mexico City. In 2015 and 2017 he was awarded second place in the National Housing Student Competition by INFONAVIT. He participated as curatorial assistant for the Mexican Pavilion at the 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale and in 2017 he co-founds atelier uno together with Adrian Flores, Carolina Segura and David de la Garza. He has given conferences in various Mexican Universities and in the US. In 2018 he is incorporated into the teaching team at Taller Vertical in Tec de Monterrey and in 2019 he works with Pablo Landa on the Architecture Guide for the city of Monterrey published by Arquine. He currently continues to work and research projects with the studio based in Monterrey.
