Michael LaFosse

Vice President, Origamido, United States

Michael G. LaFosse has been working for over forty years as an origami artist, papermaker and author. Trained as a biologist, he finds his strongest inspiration in the natural world preferring to study his subjects in their natural habitats. He credits the work of the late Japanese Origami Grand Master, Akira Yoshizawa, for leading the way by exploring nature and achieving creative expression in origami art. In 1996, Michael and Richard Alexander co-founded the Origamido Studio, a teaching center, gallery and origami design studio where they author publications of their original origami sculptures and make custom, handmade paper for each new creation. Their works have graced museums worldwide, including: Carrousel du Louvre in Paris; the Arizona–Sonora Desert Museum in Tucson, Arizona; Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens in Delray Beach, Florida; Hangar 7 (Red Bull) in Salzburg, Austria; Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts; Mingei Museum in San Diego, California; and at their own, Origami Do Experience—Waikiki. Current, traveling exhibitions include "Origami in the Garden." Together, they have authored over 70 books and kits about origami and paper arts.

David Brill

Origami artist and landscape painter, David Brill, United Kingdom

David Brill (UK, b.1948) first began to fold paper as a child, attracted to origami as no equipment or special materials are needed to begin. While working away from home in the early 1970’s, he rediscovered origami, and soon after he joined the British Origami Society. He thus began his creative origami journey, finding friends almost everywhere. Even after decades of folding paper, he is still intrigued by the endless possibilities for the origami artist. He works in a wide range of origami subjects, including animals, geometrics, flexicubes, boxes and human figures. He was President of the British Origami Society from 2017 to 2020. He is the author of Brilliant Origami (Japan Publications 1996). He is also an active painter, working frequently on landscape and still life motifs.
