Sophie Nielsen
Founder, Studio Roso, Rotterdam, Netherlands
Founded in 2008, Studio Roso is an inter-disciplinary practice that fuses an interest in architecture, art and design to create poetic site-specific installations. They have been awarded numerous commissions including prizes for large public sculptures, private collectors and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. The studios work is influenced by nature, craftsmanship and making the extraordinary happen with every-day materials. Their work plays with the ephemeral qualities of nature; the fleeting moments of reflection light and shade. Studio Roso creates highly bespoke commissions and installations, each responding to the essence of the environment it inhabits. Whether hand-crafted or machine-polished, each work strives to celebrate and extract the inherent beauty of its elemental materials. The studio is a partnership between Danish artists Sophie Nielsen and Rolf Knudsen, both of whom graduated from Design Products at the Royal College of Art, London. Future projects include numerous commissions in both the UK and overseas.
