AG Campus by evr-Architecten: Sustainable University Renovation in Brussels
AG Campus in Brussels by evr-Architecten features sustainable design, green roofs, flexible learning spaces, natural light, and modern, eco-friendly university renovation.
The AG Campus, designed by evr-Architecten, is a groundbreaking university renovation project located in the heart of Brussels, Belgium. Completed in 2022, this 5,225 m² campus combines modern sustainable architecture, functional learning spaces, and an emphasis on biophilic design to create a vibrant, open, and interactive environment for students, faculty, and visitors.

Situated in the bustling center of Brussels, the AG Campus renovation focuses on introducing light, air, and spatial fluidity into a previously segmented and dark building. The architects adopted a transversal and integrated approach, ensuring that the project maximizes the reuse of existing materials while incorporating new sustainable solutions. This included the addition of green roofs and enhanced landscaped areas, totaling over 1,500 m² of green space in the city center, promoting biodiversity, environmental comfort, and a strong connection to nature.

The redesigned ground floor serves as the social and academic hub, featuring large open lounges, classrooms, meeting rooms, and two auditoria. The transformation encourages collaboration, social interaction, and a sense of community, reflecting modern pedagogical principles that emphasize “living together and working together.” Through the introduction of spacious patios, abundant daylight floods the interior while establishing dynamic views between indoor and outdoor areas, creating an ever-changing relationship with the seasons.

Sustainability is at the core of the AG Campus. The project integrates solar panels, rainwater harvesting systems, and careful reuse of construction materials with guidance from Rotor, a cooperative design practice specializing in sustainable material management. These strategies ensure that the campus not only provides a comfortable and inspiring environment but also acts as a model for environmentally responsible urban renovations.

The interior design balances openness with functionality, employing natural materials, neutral colors, and thoughtful lighting solutions to enhance spatial experience and comfort. The exterior features modern façades, energy-efficient windows, and well-planned circulation spaces, allowing the campus to seamlessly blend with the urban fabric of Brussels while standing out as a green, forward-thinking landmark.

The AG Campus by evr-Architecten exemplifies the future of university architecture, combining sustainability, flexibility, and community-focused design. This project demonstrates how adaptive reuse, green architecture, and thoughtful planning can transform traditional buildings into modern, inspiring educational environments.
