Located in a serene wooded setting on a compact trapezoidal plot, Bospad House by maa_architecture studio demonstrates a seamless blend of modern design, functionality, and landscape integration. Completed in 2020, this residential renovation transforms an outdated family home into a contemporary living space tailored to comfort, openness, and natural light.

The original structure posed several challenges, including a small, outdated kitchen and a detached veranda that did not harmonize with the plot’s proportions. To address this, the architects demolished the existing veranda and added a thoughtfully designed extension at the rear. This extension consists of two volumes forming an ‘L’, strategically opening the living room to scenic views and creating a sunlit terrace oriented to capture the best natural light. The design enhances depth perception, making the house feel more spacious from the entrance and redistributing internal spaces for functional efficiency.

The living room occupies the highest-ceilinged volume of the extension, providing an airy, open atmosphere, while overhanging roofs ensure comfort and protection from direct sunlight. The dining area resides in the low-roofed volume, seamlessly connected to the relocated kitchen at the front facade. A large central island (380 cm) anchors the kitchen-dining sequence, accentuating space depth and enhancing usability. A newly created side opening maximizes daylight and visual connection to the outdoors.

Interior design emphasizes warmth and natural materials. Exposed wooden beams preserve a sense of structural honesty, while concrete and terrazzo floors add subtle textural contrasts. Externally, the facades are clad with vertically positioned black wooden slats, creating a rhythmic, vertical aesthetic that avoids a flattened appearance and visually integrates the house with the surrounding forest.

Through thoughtful spatial planning, materiality, and attention to natural light, Bospad House exemplifies modern residential architecture that harmonizes family living with its natural context.
