Cherry Valley Residence by StudioAC: A Harmonious Blend of Architecture and Landscape
Cherry Valley by StudioAC is a modern lakeside home in Prince Edward County, seamlessly blending natural landscapes with contemporary architecture and materials.
StudioAC introduces Cherry Valley, a striking contemporary residence nestled in the picturesque landscape of Prince Edward County, just two and a half hours east of Toronto, Canada. Renowned for its scenic shorelines and emerging wine industry, this region provides an ideal backdrop for a home that seamlessly integrates with nature.

Site and Landscape Integration
Positioned on a unique site, the residence capitalizes on the natural topography. The property features a meadow-like plateau at the entrance, descending into a ridge that leads directly to the lakeshore. This transition between land and water serves as a key design element, offering a sheltered retreat beneath the tree canopy while framing breathtaking waterfront views.

Architectural Vision and Design Approach
To create an immersive experience, the house is partially sunken into the ridge, providing both structural protection and a visual connection to nature. Expansive floor-to-ceiling windows offer panoramic views of the lake and surrounding meadows, creating a dynamic interplay between interior and exterior spaces. The design fosters a sense of coexistence with nature, allowing residents to observe the landscape's evolving textures—from earth and ferns to towering trees and open sky.
Dormers and skylights further enhance natural illumination, with strategically placed horizontal and vertical openings that echo the dappled sunlight filtering through the forest canopy.

Materiality and Inspiration
While the spatial organization and siting embrace a modern aesthetic, the material palette pays homage to traditional agrarian architecture of the region. A robust brick wall anchors the home into the hillside, providing structural integrity and thermal insulation. In contrast, a cedar-clad roof and facade gracefully descend toward the water, mirroring the tones and textures of the surrounding woodlands.
Inside, Douglas fir paneling envelops the living spaces in warmth, while exposed brick walls create a tactile dialogue between the home's interior and exterior elements. The fusion of natural materials with contemporary architectural gestures results in a home that is both timeless and site-responsive.

A Home Rooted in Nature
Cherry Valley is more than just a modern residence—it is a study in architectural restraint and environmental harmony. By embracing the site's contours and respecting its natural elements, StudioAC has crafted a home that enhances its surroundings while providing a serene, light-filled retreat.
