Nestled within the pine-covered dunes of Comporta, Portugal, the CR House by Jacobsen Arquitetura is a refined summer residence designed to harmonize with its tranquil coastal landscape. Comporta, once a traditional fishing village, has evolved into a haven for slow living, natural simplicity, and understated luxury. In this context, the residence embraces a quiet architectural language—prioritizing landscape, climate, and emotional comfort over monumentality.
The 670 m² home immerses occupants in the site’s sandy textures, ocean breeze, and pine-scented air. Rather than imposing itself, the architecture dissolves into the environment, echoing the region’s soft dunes, earthy tones, and relaxed rhythm of life.
A Clustered Bungalow Concept for Privacy and Togetherness
Designed for a couple who frequently welcomes extended family, the spatial organization emphasizes communal living balanced with privacy. The program unfolds across five independent volumes, thoughtfully distributed among the trees:
- One central pavilion housing social spaces
- Four surrounding private bungalows offering tranquil suites
This strategy ensures that guests enjoy independence while maintaining strong connection to shared living zones. Outdoors, a timber pergola walkway links the structures, providing shaded passageways that blur built and natural realms. The sequencing recalls small coastal retreats and vernacular courtyard clusters, ensuring movement feels free, organic, and rooted in the land.
Inside a Transparent, Nature-Immersed Pavilion
The heart of the house is the social pavilion—a light, open structure envisioned as a “glass box in the forest.” Fully operable floor-to-ceiling glazing dissolves boundaries, creating continuous visual and physical flow between interior spaces and the surrounding pine canopy.
Materials reinforce this relationship to place:
- Concrete floors and countertops introduce raw durability
