Embracing Nature's Serenity: Discover the Tranquil Beauty of KLG Architects' Dune House
Can KLG Architects' Dune House Redefine Coastal Living with its Harmonious Blend of Design and Environment?

Nestled within the windswept dunes, the Dune House by KLG Architects is a testament to the seamless integration of architecture and nature. With its undulating roofscape and raised structure, this home is a true embodiment of its surroundings.
The unique roof design serves a dual purpose. It provides protection from the prevailing winds that sweep in from the sea, creating a sheltered outdoor living space. At the same time, the curved apex of the roof harmonizes with the natural dunescape, seamlessly blending the house into its environment.
One of the standout features of the Dune House is its elevated structure, supported by gum-pole posts. This innovative approach not only preserves the delicate dune ecosystem but also allows the ground to rejuvenate after construction. It creates a conserved thoroughfare for small indigenous fauna, ensuring minimal disruption to the natural habitat.
The volumes of the house and the guest pod emerge organically from the dunes, offering open living spaces that extend towards breathtaking views. An elevated walkway, reminiscent of the local coastline's boardwalks, bisects the inhabitable zones and creates a seamless connection between the mountain and the ocean.
Sustainability was a key consideration in the design of the Dune House. Timber, chosen as the primary structural and finishing material, not only reflects the sensitive approach to the site but also offers environmental benefits. Its unfinished state allows the timber to weather and blend tonally with the landscape, while also reducing construction time and allowing for potential future extensions.
The Dune House stands as a testament to the careful balance between architecture and nature. Its design embraces the unique qualities of the site, creating a coastal retreat that harmonizes with its surroundings. With its innovative features and sustainable approach, the Dune House sets a new standard for coastal living.
