Estremoz 6 Houses by A+Architecture: Modern Terraced Homes Rooted in Alentejo Tradition
Estremoz 6 Houses transforms traditional Alentejo homes into modern, sustainable terraced residences with vibrant red doors, communal gardens, and sunlight-filled interiors.
Nestled in the heart of the picturesque Estremoz region, the Estremoz 6 Houses project by A+Architecture Studio showcases a masterful blend of modern design and regional heritage. Completed in 2024, this transformative project involved the rehabilitation and reorganisation of a cluster of small houses, converting them into six contemporary terraced homes while maintaining the charm and cultural identity of the Alentejo region.

Thoughtful Design for Community Living
Each home is meticulously designed to provide private, functional living spaces that open seamlessly onto shared communal areas. The inclusion of a shared garden and swimming pool fosters social interaction among residents, encouraging a sense of community while offering tranquil spaces for relaxation and leisure. The layout strategically balances privacy with connectivity, ensuring a harmonious living environment.

Harmonizing Modernity with Regional Heritage
The architectural approach is deeply respectful of local traditions. Materials such as stone, lime, and ceramics, commonly used in Alentejo construction, were chosen not only for their durability and sustainability but also to create continuity with the region’s historic architectural identity. These natural materials ensure the homes are both eco-conscious and timeless, providing a modern living experience while celebrating Alentejo’s cultural heritage.

Vibrant Accents Reflecting Local Character
A standout design feature of these homes is the bold red doors, a modern interpretation of a traditional Alentejo aesthetic. These doors introduce a vibrant focal point against the neutral façades, symbolizing warmth, hospitality, and regional identity. This thoughtful color choice reflects the lively spirit of local traditions while injecting a contemporary flair into the homes.

Interiors that Maximize Comfort and Light
Inside, the homes are designed for comfort and functionality. Generous open-plan interiors are flooded with natural light, highlighting the beauty of wooden finishes, beams, and thoughtfully integrated lighting. Each residence prioritizes a welcoming atmosphere, while the shared spaces—garden, pool, and terraces—serve as social hubs that enhance the residents’ quality of life and community engagement.

Sustainability at the Core
Sustainability is a central principle of the project. The homes incorporate eco-friendly solutions, including energy-efficient construction techniques and water recycling systems. This commitment to environmentally responsible design not only reduces the ecological footprint of the development but also enhances the long-term well-being of its inhabitants.

A Modern Living Experience Rooted in Alentejo
The Estremoz 6 Houses project exemplifies the potential of contemporary architecture harmonized with local culture. By thoughtfully blending modern living standards with regional materials, design traditions, and communal spaces, A+Architecture Studio has created a residential development that is both innovative and culturally authentic. These terraced homes offer a unique opportunity to experience the beauty, warmth, and traditions of the Alentejo region, while enjoying modern comforts and sustainable living.
