Reimagining the Ex-Tribunale Building for Senior Living
Originally built as the headquarters for the city court, the Ex-Tribunale was an outdated structure both in terms of urban integration and energy efficiency. Despite its obsolescence, the building's location in an attractive area, adjacent to the Pascoli school and the Nobel gardens, presented an ideal opportunity for renovation. The architects were tasked with converting the building into 42 sheltered housing units for the elderly, with added spaces for communal services like clinics, physiotherapy gyms, meeting rooms, and restaurants.



The conversion process was guided by a dual philosophy: the design needed to be both contemporary in its approach while maintaining local relevance. By making sustainable material choices and incorporating green technology, the building was transformed into a modern, eco-friendly living space that aligns with the needs of the elderly population.



Creating Green Spaces for Social and Environmental Health
A key feature of the project was its focus on outdoor spaces. The architects ensured that residents could enjoy ample access to green areas, such as thematic gardens and accessible terraces. The Villa Nobel park was extended onto the building's roof, providing a continuous green environment for residents. This rooftop park also allows for uninterrupted connections to the surrounding public space, fostering a seamless integration of nature with the built environment.



The importance of outdoor spaces is particularly relevant in the context of sheltered accommodation, as they play a significant role in the well-being of elderly residents.
