FA House by Rocco Arquitetos: A Modern Brazilian Retreat Designed for Gathering

Nestled in the tranquil landscape of Ibiúna, São Paulo, the FA House by Rocco Arquitetos is a residential haven designed around the simple yet powerful idea of connection. The client's core request—to create a home perfect for entertaining friends—shaped every architectural decision, resulting in a spatial composition that blurs the boundaries between interior and exterior, solitude and sociality.

A Dual-Block Layout for Privacy and Social Integration

To preserve privacy without compromising social fluidity, the architects divided the residence into two primary volumes. The main block houses the vibrant social areas, including the living room, dining area, and a spacious barbecue space. In contrast, a separate block accommodates six private bedrooms, thoughtfully distributed over two levels to maintain intimacy and quietude.

Connecting these zones is a central volume containing the main entrance and the staircase, serving as both a transitional and functional core of the house.

Indoor-Outdoor Continuity and Abundant Natural Light

The heart of the FA House is its expansive, open-plan social space, where floor-to-ceiling glass panels invite generous daylight and panoramic views of the surrounding nature. A striking overhead glass panel floods the interior with natural light, enhancing the tactile beauty of the exposed structural elements and natural materials.

Large sliding glass doors at both the front and rear of the house create seamless integration between indoor and outdoor environments. At the front, the house opens to a sleek swimming pool area, while the rear reveals a lush garden encircling a mature jaboticaba tree, adding a deeply rooted Brazilian touch to the modern home.

Materiality and Structure: A Warm, Tropical Modernism

The architectural language of the FA House combines strength and warmth through a mixed structural system of steel and reinforced concrete, softened by natural textures and finishes. The roof design features exposed cumaru wood beams, thermoacoustic tiles, and a slatted cumaru wood lining, which not only enhances acoustic comfort but also contributes to the building’s aesthetic warmth.

Every material was carefully chosen to align with the home’s intention—solid yet inviting, open yet grounded in the natural environment. Interior finishes from Portobello and Salatino Dejavite contribute to a clean, refined palette that complements the architectural form.
