A Post-Pandemic Sanctuary for Family Growth

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the homeowners sought a residence that would provide their children with a safe and enriching environment. Situated on a compact 5.7m x 10.4m plot, the design optimizes space while maintaining an open and connected atmosphere. The key concept of the project was to integrate all functional spaces—including dining, studying, and playing—into a seamless, multi-level layout that encourages interaction between parents and children.

Innovative Spatial Design and Connectivity

A defining feature of Grow Up House is its vertical connection between floors. The design utilizes skylights and floor vents, allowing natural light to filter through and enhancing ventilation. The soft curves of the walls not only contribute to a fluid aesthetic but also ensure safety for the children.

The ground floor features an open-plan kitchen and dining area with a direct visual connection to the sky through the skylight. A small yet functional backyard enhances the living experience, offering a cozy outdoor retreat. Adjacent to the kitchen, a play corner under the staircase provides a dedicated space for the youngest child, allowing the mother to keep an eye on them while cooking.

The mezzanine level serves as a multi-purpose communal space where the children can play and interact with their father, who often spends time here exercising or watching television. This area maintains a visual link to the ground floor, reinforcing the home’s sense of connectivity.

A Thoughtful Approach to Family Privacy and Interaction

The parents’ bedroom, strategically positioned, allows them to oversee the children’s playground while maintaining a sense of privacy through a small transitional lobby. Meanwhile, the children's spaces are designed to support both rest and study, with a built-in slide integrated into the staircase, adding an element of playfulness to their daily routine.

Throughout the home, the continuous circulation between traffic and living areas fosters a sense of togetherness, enabling seamless interactions among family members. The design philosophy behind Grow Up House revolves around strengthening familial bonds while offering a dynamic and engaging environment for children to develop and thrive.
