House in La Siria 02 by Plan:b Arquitectos – Harmonious Living in Amaga, Colombia
House in La Siria 02 features parallel brick volumes, a central courtyard, natural materials, cross-ventilation, pool, scenic views, and serene indoor-outdoor living.
Nestled in the serene landscapes of Amaga, Colombia, the House in La Siria 02 by Plan:b Arquitectos exemplifies a thoughtful integration of nature, light, and materiality. Completed in 2024, this contemporary residence is designed around two parallel brick volumes connected by an elongated courtyard, carefully articulating private and social spaces for optimal functionality and comfort.

Spatial Organization and Flow
The northern volume houses the private areas, including bedrooms and bathrooms, while the southern volume contains the social spaces—a spacious living room, dining area, and kitchen—that flow seamlessly around a central courtyard. This intermediate courtyard doubles as an access vestibule, circulation space, and a relaxing lounge area, complete with hammocks, offering residents an intimate connection with the outdoors.

The private volume opens to a contained garden, providing a serene retreat, while the social volume expands toward the pool area and panoramic distant landscapes. Strategically aligned along an east-west axis, the home maximizes sunlight exposure, ensuring the pool enjoys sunlight throughout the day and the interior spaces benefit from soft, indirect natural light.

Design Features and Materials
House in La Siria 02 showcases a palette of natural and rustic materials that create a warm, tranquil atmosphere. The architects employed:
- Rustic bricks in varied earthy tones
- Clay roof tiles
- Perforated white concrete blocks
- Native woods
- Dark-toned metal pergolas
These materials are combined to evoke a sense of serenity, blending traditional Colombian construction techniques with modern spatial arrangements. The sloping roofs of both volumes visually and physically connect the house with its surroundings—the northern volume aligns with the rear mountains, while the southern volume frames Cerro Tusa, a distant pointed peak.

Ventilation, Views, and Sustainability
A system of operable windows and porous facades ensures continuous cross-ventilation, enhancing thermal comfort naturally. The longer rear volume extends along the western edge, allowing the master bedroom to enjoy unobstructed views of the landscape. By integrating passive design strategies such as orientation, natural ventilation, and daylighting, the residence achieves a balance between aesthetic beauty and functional sustainability.

Architecture That Connects With Nature
Through careful spatial planning and material selection, Plan:b Arquitectos has created a home that fosters relaxation, social interaction, and a profound connection to the surrounding Colombian landscape. The house is a perfect example of modern residential architecture in Colombia, where sustainable design, rustic materials, and scenic integration converge.
