Ibi House by Arkitekt Associados: A Harmonious Blend of Tradition and Modernity
Ibi House blends rustic charm with modern comfort, featuring sustainable materials, open spaces, and seamless indoor-outdoor integration in Brazil.
A Thoughtful Renovation in Ibiúna, Brazil
Located in the serene landscape of Ibiúna, Brazil, Ibi House by Arkitekt Associados is a remarkable architectural transformation that seamlessly merges rustic charm with modern comfort. Originally envisioned as a small renovation of a gourmet annex and bedroom expansion, the project evolved into a full-scale revitalization, creating a warm, functional, and inviting countryside retreat.

Preserving Rustic Aesthetics with a Contemporary Touch
One of the key design principles was maintaining the authenticity of the brick facade, ensuring that the new elements complemented the existing structure. To achieve visual continuity, the architects developed a custom earth-toned texture derived from the original brick, harmonizing the new external walls with the old.
The flooring of the outdoor living areas was transformed from white to red sandstone, creating a seamless connection between floors and walls while maintaining a natural, earthy appeal.

Enhancing Spatial Flow and Comfort
The main house underwent a comprehensive renovation, introducing modern finishes in the living rooms, bedrooms, and bathrooms. The kitchen was expanded, featuring larger openings for natural light, vibrant color accents, and sliding doors that connect it effortlessly with the dining area.
The annex became the heart of social gatherings, featuring a gourmet kitchen with a pizza oven, wood-fired oven, and barbecue. This space is integrated with a sauna and powder room, designed to enhance the poolside leisure experience.

Sustainable Materials and Biophilic Design
Sustainability played a crucial role in the material selection. The project utilized bamboo paneling for the ceiling, a traditional Brazilian craft material known for its acoustic properties and natural aesthetic. The doors and windows were designed to maximize cross ventilation, reducing the need for artificial cooling systems.
The sauna, enclosed in glass, offers panoramic views of the garden and pool area, ensuring a tranquil connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. The balcony, extending toward the valley, provides breathtaking views of the dam and lush greenery, reinforcing the home’s relationship with nature.

Thoughtfully Crafted Interior Design
A key highlight of Ibi House is the custom-built cabinetry, crafted from eucalyptus wood and accented with green lacquer paint. The cabinet doors incorporate woven straw, a nod to traditional craftsmanship while also serving a functional purpose by improving ventilation.
The interior decor embraces a neutral color palette, allowing the homeowner’s art collection to take center stage. A curated selection of furniture from Brazilian designers further enhances the space, blending modern elegance with cultural heritage.

Seamless Integration of Architecture and Landscape
To create fluidity between the main house and the annex, the architects introduced glass-covered pergolas, extending the living spaces into the outdoors. Redesigned pathways and landscaping redefine the approach to the house, enhancing its curb appeal while framing picturesque views of the surrounding nature.
The repositioning of the car shelter opens up the front elevation, allowing for an unobstructed connection between the house and the garden. Landscaping plays a pivotal role in the design, with lush greenery and native plant species enhancing the home’s biophilic experience.

A Testament to Timeless Design
Ibi House by Arkitekt Associados is a masterclass in thoughtful renovation, where architectural heritage meets modern-day comfort. By preserving the essence of the original structure while introducing functional upgrades and sustainable materials, this countryside retreat embodies well-being, relaxation, and timeless design.
