A Hybrid Construction System for the Future

One of the most innovative aspects of the jtB House is its unique hybrid outer shell. Unlike traditional cavity walls, BLAF Architecten introduced a self-supporting brick wall on the outside combined with a light timber frame inside, filled with biobased dry lime hemp. This system eliminates the need for cavities, minimizes thermal bridges, and ensures reversible building—meaning the outer or inner shell can be dismantled independently without compromising the structure.

This groundbreaking method not only enhances thermal performance but also contributes to circular building principles, allowing the home to be both sustainable and adaptable for future generations.

Compact Geometry and Environmental Respect

The jtB House is designed as a compact, hexagonal volume with sloping sides, creating an elegant silhouette that minimizes environmental impact. This design respects the natural relief of the site while ensuring that visual connections to the landscape remain intact. The solitary geometric form sits quietly in its environment, preserving the undeveloped land while offering the family a serene and private living space.

The sloping walls increase the distance from neighboring plots, enhancing privacy, while the minimized side windows further reduce visual intrusion. At the rear, the home opens up with a striking wooden curtain wall spanning three stories, creating a sheltered patio that doubles as sun protection during hot summer months.

One of the defining features of the jtB House is its seamless integration with the landscape. Every opening in the brick façade carefully frames views of the natural surroundings, connecting residents with nature while maintaining privacy.
