Located in the historic town of Besalú, Spain, the LC House by Sau Taller d’Arquitectura represents a refined balance between modern design, environmental responsibility, and contextual sensitivity. Designed by Lluis Jordà and Pol Jordà, this 184 m² residence prioritizes both sustainability and spatial efficiency, redefining what a contemporary timber home can achieve in harmony with its landscape.


Thoughtful Site Placement and Spatial Configuration
The house is positioned at the northern edge of the plot, adjacent to the access road, to maximize southern exposure and liberate garden space. This orientation not only captures panoramic views but also enhances passive solar gain throughout the year.
With a compact square plan measuring 9.3 x 9.3 meters, the design ensures maximum efficiency and clarity. The balloon-frame timber structure, supported by four central columns, defines four 15 m² corner zones organized around two vertical service cores. The result is a cruciform layout that seamlessly integrates functionality, structural simplicity, and openness.


Climatic Performance and Passive Design Principles
Every design decision in LC House stems from climatic reasoning and ecological restraint. The form factor references the archetypal house shape, allowing for maximum internal volume with minimal surface area, which improves thermal efficiency and reduces heat loss.
