Les Pointes Residence by Ghoche Architecte – Modern Waterfront Home in Saint-Donat, Quebec
Les Pointes Residence by Ghoche Architecte is a modern waterfront home in Quebec, combining luxury, panoramic lake views, asymmetrical design, and sustainable materials.
Nestled at the tip of a serene peninsula on Lake Archambault, Les Pointes Residence is a striking modern home designed by Ghoche Architecte in Saint-Donat, Quebec, Canada. Completed in 2020, this 420 m² contemporary waterfront house exemplifies the seamless integration of architecture with its natural surroundings, combining luxury, functionality, and breathtaking views.

The project began with the demolition of an existing family cottage, allowing the architects to craft a residence uniquely tailored to the client’s needs. The design concept was inspired by the poetic qualities of the site—its textures, colors, and the surrounding mountains—resulting in a structure that directs panoramic views of Lake Archambault from every main living space.

Architectural Design and LayoutOne of the main design challenges was maintaining all primary rooms on a single level while avoiding an overly elongated footprint. To address this, the house was thoughtfully divided into four wings, each with a distinct asymmetrical roof that reflects the jagged mountainous landscape. This fragmented geometric approach creates a dynamic yet harmonious architectural composition, emphasizing horizontality while providing a sculptural roofline that complements the natural environment.

Materiality and SustainabilityThe choice of pre-finished steel panels for the exterior cladding and roof ensures durability, minimal maintenance, and a contemporary aesthetic. Grey and anthracite tones of the panels echo the surrounding rocky landscape, while subtle copper accents on soffits and the main entrance add warmth and visual interest. The lower level, constructed in poured concrete, anchors the building to the terrain, housing technical spaces and defining a strong horizontal base from which the upper living areas rise.

Interior Spaces and Living ExperienceInside, the residence offers open, fluid spaces with abundant natural light and unobstructed lake views. Large windows frame the landscape, creating a constant dialogue between interior and exterior environments. Thoughtful detailing, high-quality materials, and a modern yet welcoming design enhance the sense of luxury and comfort, ensuring that the home meets both aesthetic and functional needs for contemporary family living.

Landscape and Environmental IntegrationLes Pointes Residence exemplifies a sensitive approach to site integration. The design respects the natural slope of the peninsula, the shoreline, and the surrounding forested mountains. By placing the main living spaces strategically and using materials that harmonize with the environment, the residence achieves a balance between modern architectural expression and ecological sensitivity.
Overall, Les Pointes Residence is a signature modern home that demonstrates Ghoche Architecte’s commitment to responsive design, blending form, function, and the natural beauty of Quebec’s landscape.
