Luxury Apartment Renovation in Stockholm: A Case Study of Karlavägen Apartment by Spring Arkitektkontor
Explore the sophisticated transformation of Karlavägen Apartment in Stockholm by Spring Arkitektkontor, merging luxury with functional design in a historic setting.
When it comes to combining contemporary elegance with functional design, the recent renovation of the Karlavägen Apartment in central Stockholm sets a high standard. This detailed case study explores the sophisticated transformation carried out by Spring Arkitektkontor, showcasing a prime example of luxury apartment renovation in Stockholm.

Project Overview
The Architectural Vision
The Karlavägen Apartment, a spacious 230 square meter property, is the result of merging two smaller units within a historical early 20th-century building. Spring Arkitektkontor was tasked with creating a space that not only provides privacy for its residents—a couple with a teenage daughter—but also accommodates social gatherings in a seamless manner.

Key Design Features
Centralized Kitchen
A pivotal change was the relocation of the kitchen to a central position, enhancing accessibility to the dining and living areas. This strategic placement allows for effortless interaction between the spaces, ideal for hosting guests while maintaining privacy in personal areas.

Private and Public Spaces
The design distinctly separates the apartment into private and public zones. The bedrooms and personal spaces are smartly positioned at the apartment's periphery, whereas the social areas are centrally located, ensuring a perfect balance between privacy and sociability.

Interior Design and Furnishings
Custom-Made Furnishings
The apartment features bespoke furniture tailored to fit the space's unique dimensions and style requirements. The fixed furniture pieces resonate with the building's original architectural elements, such as oak and green marble from Kolmården, ensuring continuity and elegance.

Contemporary Meets Classic
While the cabinetry and other built-in elements adhere to the apartment's classic aesthetic, the addition of modern design elements introduces a dynamic tension between old and new. This blend not only enhances the visual appeal but also embodies the essence of luxury apartment renovation in Stockholm.
Innovative Solutions
Curved Hallway and Hidden Doors
One of the standout features is a curved hallway concealed behind paneled doors, leading to the master suite. This design not only optimizes space but also adds an element of intrigue and sophistication to the apartment.
The renovation of the Karlavägen Apartment by Spring Arkitektkontor is a testament to the potential of luxury apartment renovations in Stockholm. By melding historical charm with modern functionality, this project serves as a benchmark for future renovations in the city’s vibrant architectural landscape.
