Piauí Apartment by SuperLimão: A Harmonious Blend of Art, Architecture, and Modern Living
SuperLimão’s Piauí Apartment blends modern design with historic architecture, featuring open layouts, natural materials, curated art, and innovative technology.
Located in the heart of Higienópolis, São Paulo, the Piauí Apartment is a stunning 350 m² residential renovation designed by SuperLimão Studio. With a deep respect for the building's original 1970s architecture, this project seamlessly integrates contemporary design with historical elements, creating a sophisticated and functional space for a family of five.

Preserving Architectural Integrity While Enhancing Functionality
SuperLimão approached the renovation with a focus on maintaining the apartment's original character while improving spatial fluidity and natural lighting. By eliminating excessive compartmentalization, they introduced an open-plan layout that enhances brightness and ventilation.
Key restoration efforts included:
- Preserving and restoring wooden floorboards
- Exposing structural beams and piping for an industrial aesthetic
- Repurposing travertine marble to create a terrazzo-inspired flooring effect
- Retaining the stainless steel island in the kitchen while complementing it with a stone surface

A Living Space That Embraces Nature
One of the apartment's standout features is its generous windows, which frame breathtaking views of Parque Buenos Aires. This connection to nature brings an element of tranquility into the urban dwelling, reinforcing the residence's balance between sophisticated city living and organic serenity.

Custom Millwork and Flexible Workspaces
At one end of the spacious living room, custom-designed millwork delineates a dedicated home office—a key requirement for the residents. Featuring sliding ribbed-glass doors, this space offers the flexibility to be either fully integrated into the living area or enclosed for privacy, catering to a range of professional and leisure activities.

Technology Meets Comfort: The Hidden Home Theater
On the opposite side of the apartment, a discreetly camouflaged door leads to a cutting-edge home theater. Designed for ultimate entertainment, this private retreat features:
- Integrated home automation
- Surround sound system
- Data Processing Center
- A climate-controlled wine cellar and bar for sophisticated hosting

Personalized Private Spaces for Every Family Member
The private quarters include a serene master suite and three bedrooms, each designed to reflect the personalities of the children. The master bedroom incorporates natural materials like wood and straw, paired with exposed brick and concrete, crafting an inviting retreat for relaxation.
Each child’s room carries a distinct identity:
- Teenage daughter's room: Features dark-toned furniture and a wrought iron panel for an edgy, contemporary look.
- Japanese-inspired suite: Showcases a tatami bed, rice-straw flooring, and a minimalist aesthetic.
- Custom-designed bathroom: Boasts a sliding door and natural stone pebble flooring for a spa-like ambiance.

A Home That Celebrates Art
Art is a defining element of the Piauí Apartment. The residents' extensive art collection, featuring works from renowned Brazilian artists like Alfredo Volpi and Jaider Esbell, is displayed throughout the apartment. The hallway to the bedrooms has been transformed into a mini art gallery, featuring an exposed brick wall and a custom concrete bench running its length.
A fascinating architectural discovery added to the apartment’s unique charm: during renovations, a curved concrete belt was revealed, marking the original form of the building’s internal staircase. This feature was preserved, further enhancing the apartment’s character and depth.

A Thoughtfully Curated Color Palette
The apartment's color scheme primarily features light, neutral tones to amplify natural light and maintain a timeless elegance. However, bold color accents strategically appear in elements like:
- Stone surfaces in the main hall
- Vibrant tiles in the powder room, reflected on the ceiling for an artistic effect

A Masterpiece of Thoughtful Design
The Piauí Apartment by SuperLimão is a stunning example of modern residential renovation that honors architectural history while embracing contemporary design principles. With its seamless integration of art, technology, and nature, this project redefines urban living, offering a functional yet visually striking home tailored to its residents' dynamic lifestyle.
