T-house, designed by H.a architects, is a striking example of compact urban living in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Located on a narrow 3.77 x 11.32-meter plot deep in a long alley of District 6, this townhouse creatively solves the challenge of limited urban space while serving as a home for a young family and a playful environment for their children.

Ho Chi Minh City is known for its dense population, with over 600 alleys spanning more than 70,000 meters. In this context, T-house redefines how small residential plots can be optimized for modern living, accommodating 2-4 member households efficiently. The design addresses both functionality and affordability while prioritizing family interaction.

The house adopts a vertical, multi-level layout with 11 staggered floors, each connected through a flexible circulation system. This design allows spaces for living, playing, studying, and relaxation to intertwine organically, creating a dynamic flow throughout the home. As you move higher, spaces become more private and intimate, maintaining a balance between social and secluded areas.

T-house incorporates undivided living spaces with soft level changes instead of rigid floor separation, producing a continuous, open “atmosphere” across all levels. Traffic structures, including stairs and flexible platforms, are cleverly integrated as functional playgrounds, libraries, and communal spaces, enriching the family experience and minimizing monotony.

The architectural strategy emphasizes lightweight construction, using pre-assembled steel-wood floors within the reinforced concrete shell. Sparse wooden flooring, flexible suspended stairs, and staggered levels maximize openness while maintaining structural efficiency. Natural light and ventilation penetrate deep into the house, enhancing the overall living quality.

T-house is a key project in H.a’s ongoing exploration of urban tube houses and continuous floor structures, serving as a model for innovative urban architecture in dense city environments. This project demonstrates that even the smallest plots can become vibrant, interactive, and functional homes for modern families.
