Triode Residence by Kamat & Rozario Architecture: A Blend of Intimacy and Shared Living
An architectural masterpiece blending communal living with individuality, designed by Kamat & Rozario Architecture in Bengaluru, India.
The Triode Residence, designed by Kamat & Rozario Architecture in Bengaluru, India, is a stunning architectural marvel. Built to foster closeness and individuality among family members, the design reflects a thoughtful response to the COVID-19 pandemic's emphasis on connection and shared living.

Context and Inspiration
The Triode Residence was envisioned for two sisters and a brother who sought to live closer after experiencing prolonged isolation. The project underscores the importance of proximity and balance, where individuality is preserved while fostering shared experiences.

Design Philosophy
Maintaining Human Scale
Despite a relatively constrained site, the building maintains a human scale by adopting a split-level configuration. This approach ensures the structure doesn’t feel imposing, even while maximizing usable space.

Individual and Communal Zones
Each of the three apartments was designed with distinct zones that mimic standalone houses, ensuring individuality. The top floor incorporates additional shared amenities like a rooftop amphitheater, gym, and guest room, blending privacy with interaction.

Architectural Highlights
Split-Level Apartments
The split-level design allows each apartment to span multiple floors, creating a sense of openness while optimizing space usage. This approach enhances the relationship between private and communal areas.

Innovative Façade Design
The western façade features a custom-designed louver system made of deep metal sections. This solution effectively reduces glare and heat, maintaining the connection to the street while adding an industrial aesthetic.

Industrial Aesthetic
The exposed concrete, metal, and wood finishes reflect an industrial style, creating a raw yet inviting ambiance that flows seamlessly from the exterior into the interiors.

Shared Amenities and Intimate Spaces
The rooftop amphitheater serves as a hub for family gatherings, while the shared gym, laundry, and guest rooms enhance communal living. The top apartment's private courtyard offers shaded outdoor relaxation, supported by skylights for natural light.

Sustainable and Functional Design
The building's design optimally balances sustainability and functionality. The metal louvers provide natural shading, and skylights bring in ample daylight, reducing energy dependence.

The Triode Residence by Kamat & Rozario Architecture is a prime example of contemporary residential design that harmonizes individuality with community living. Its split-level configuration, thoughtful material selection, and innovative façade solutions make it a standout in modern architecture.
