Integrating Sustainability and Community in Veterinary Clinic Architecture

The Clínica Veterinaria Guayaquil demonstrates how veterinary clinic architecture can embrace sustainability while fostering community interaction. This project involved the recycling of an early 20th-century urban house, reimagining its structure to create a modern veterinary facility. The design focuses on creating spaces that are not only functional for the treatment of animals but also serve as a connection point for the local community. The central bay, originally designed as a circulatory system for the house, was demolished to make way for a semi-covered passage. This passage connects the street to a community garden, where both pets and people can enjoy the outdoor space.

A Harmonious Blend of Materials: Concrete, Glass, and Vegetation

The choice of materials in the Clínica Veterinaria Guayaquil plays a key role in both its functionality and aesthetic appeal. Exposed concrete and stone floors create a durable, pet-friendly environment that complements the surrounding greenery. The semi-covered passage, designed for easy circulation, bridges the inside and outside, allowing the natural elements to enhance the overall experience. The walls, clad in corrugated sheet metal, serve a dual purpose. Not only do they create a ventilated facade, but they also unify the material history of the building, giving it a contemporary yet respectful nod to the past.

On the ground floor, the space is dedicated to the pet store and veterinary clinics. The upper floor houses the laboratory, X-ray room, and operating room.
