Vizor BG2 Office: A Compact, Dual-Level Workspace for Creative Energy

Designed by KOTRA architects, the Vizor BG2 Office is a compact yet expressive workplace created for the international game development company Vizor Games. Completed in 2020 in Minsk, the 168-square-meter interior demonstrates how spatial intelligence, architectural clarity, and lighting innovation can transform a small office into a highly functional and inspiring environment.

Reimagining a High-Ceilinged Interior

The project occupies a distinctive space defined by generous five-meter-high ceilings and three structural columns positioned at the front. Rather than treating these conditions as constraints, the architects leveraged them as opportunities to shape a dynamic, multi-layered office environment. From the outset, the design intent focused on reflecting the energy, innovation, and modern character of Vizor Games while ensuring comfort and efficiency for daily work.

Dual-Level Strategy for Maximum Efficiency

To expand usable area without increasing the footprint, the office was divided into two levels. A lightweight metal mezzanine structure introduces additional floor space while maintaining visual openness. This intervention allowed the architects to logically organize workstations, a meeting room, relaxation zones, a wardrobe, and a compact coffee point within a limited area.

The staircase connecting the two levels becomes a central architectural feature. Beyond vertical circulation, it acts as a sculptural element and integrates additional functionality: one of its steps doubles as a bench within the wardrobe zone, reinforcing the project’s emphasis on multifunctional design.

The Concept of Duality in Material and Space

A recurring theme throughout the interior is duality—expressed through form, function, and materiality. This idea is most clearly articulated in the coffee point, conceived as a stainless steel block. On one side, it operates as a practical refreshment area; on the other, it acts as a spatial divider that subtly zones the office without enclosing it.

The reflective metallic surface visually dissolves into its surroundings, mirroring ceiling light lines and the illuminated mezzanine lightbox. This interplay between reflection and structure enhances spatial depth while reinforcing the office’s contemporary, tech-driven identity.

Lighting as an Architectural Experience

Lighting plays a defining role in shaping the atmosphere of the Vizor BG2 Office. Departing from conventional office lighting solutions, the architects introduced a “continuous light canvas” above the primary work area on the ground floor. This ceiling consists of a slatted framework that diffuses soft, ambient light throughout the space.

When switched off, the ceiling reads as a minimalist, neutral surface. Once activated, it transforms the interior, introducing subtle color shifts and dynamic lighting effects. Controlled remotely, the system allows adjustments in brightness and tone, enabling the workspace to adapt to different moods, tasks, and times of day.

A Concise Shell for Creative Work

The result is a discreet yet visually rich office interior that balances restraint with expression. Clean lines, industrial materials, and flexible lighting scenarios create an environment that supports both focused work and informal interaction. Within its compact footprint, the Vizor BG2 Office offers a variety of spatial experiences, allowing employees to choose settings that suit productivity, collaboration, or relaxation.

By combining spatial efficiency, multifunctional elements, and atmospheric lighting, KOTRA architects have crafted an office that reflects the creative spirit of a game development studio—modern, adaptable, and quietly expressive.
