Act-N

Act-N means: to activate | enliven,excite,accelerate. to act (uate) | put into action, exercise, and undertake with determination. This project aims to provide an environment for multiple activities to its visitors.

Istanbul is a coastal settlement. The intersection of land and sea is a multifaceted resource that incorporates the diversity and richness of coastal, marine and land life. Also due to the cultural, social and economic potential of it,the coasts are different from each other, these potential create concrete diversity in terms of coastal uses.

Producing is a dynamic process and it needs action. Therefore, besides the concept, it was tried to design a dynamic complex. From this idea five different public spaces were designed to give visitors chance to experience the nature and the complex in different levels. Thus visitors experience the being active even if they do not notice.

The project site is Hasköy, Istanbul. In the Ottoman period, parks and gardens were built in this area, and shipyards and piers were established. Over time, Haliç has become a trade and industrial center. Hasköy, located on the northern bank of the Haliç,is one of the industrial settlements.

Workshops and ateliers are also production areas of today, just like factories. Therefore “a design factory”, “an urban fab” was designed considering the renewal of these industrial structures in the region.
