Bab Al-Atlal: Remembering Through Debris
Bab Al-Atlal is a memorial landscape, a public space on the footprint of the former Grand Serail of Aleppo. We argue against the reconstruction of the Serail, as an act to remember the immeasurable loss of life, property, and social and cultural capital in Aleppo and Syria at large. In this proposal, debris from destruction is the locus of collective memory.
