Maya Harvest | Xocolatl

In Comalcalco, Tabasco, Mexico, we designed a holiday village blending the rich history of cacao, a key symbol of ancient Mayan culture, with sustainable tourism. As part of the Xocolatl Competition, our goal was not just to create accommodation but to offer a unique space where guests immerse themselves in culture, nature, and experience.

In my Xocomaidan project, I was inspired by the central plazas and courtyards of ancient Maya culture. The plaza, designed for rituals and gatherings, serves as a cultural hub. Structures reflecting the sacredness of cacao are arranged around courtyards to strengthen both social and environmental bonds, merging ancient traditions with a sustainable approach.

The design embraces a 6x6 grid inspired by the natural rhythm of cacao tree canopies, seamlessly blending architecture with the lush plantation. Structures are thoughtfully woven into the landscape, preserving the environment while fostering meaningful connections. Spaces for hospitality, learning, and experience are carefully positioned to immerse visitors

CHOCO HIVE

Choco Hive is a resort blending Maya culture with sustainability. Guests stay free by volunteering to harvest cocoa, learning its cultural significance through museums and workshops. Inspired by Maya architecture, the design uses hexagonal modules as lasting traces, connecting past and future. Choco Hive raises awareness for ethical cocoa production.
