This memorial center for the old city Aleppo preserves memories of culture, history, and nature. There is a space for study, including a library, several areas for performances and lectures, an exhibition hall, and a hostel for travelers, lecturers, and researchers. And There is also a big yard for rest and celebration. The biggest part of the building is a huge museum hosting different exhibitions – but the most important exhibition is the now demolished, but eventually resurgent city outside. Standing in safety, looking out over this ruin of civilization, one feels many emotions – but never despair, or the urge to give up. In some ways, this is to be a museum of war. But more than that, it remembers everything that happened in this place – from the tragic to the everyday. It also reminds people that their heritage is something to be protected.
