Sustainable School of Interior Design
The project focuses on designing a sustainable and futuristic school that caters to every need of a design student, connects people and breaks away from the conventional design schools. The primary aspect of the project revolves around maximizing space utilization and providing a distinctive and continuous circulation zone that flows throughout the building.
Project Media
Studio Space
This image showcases a part of the first floor, in this floor we have the studios, one classroom, offices, review spaces, 3D printing spaces, a kitchenette for the professors and students, and other services. As we are moving towards a paperless future, our students will have access to Transparent OLED Displays that double as space dividers as well.
Ground Floor Plan and Interior Elevations
The ground floor of this project is considered to be a public-zone housing amenities such as a pop-up space, a hangout space and café primarily. We decided to open up the ground floor to everyone so as to ensure that students have a space where they can connect with others. The element that ties together our project is a core housing all major services.
First Floor and Terrace Floor Plan
This image showcases our first floor and terrace floor plan. Our building is in reality made up of four floors, the first and second floor are essentially the same except for the band containing the offices are mirrored. The terrace floor is a half interior, half exterior situation and contains classrooms and VR facilities alongside a hangout area.
Architectural Section
As seen in the architectural section, the intensity of privacy increases as we move upwards. The ground floor houses activities that could be enjoyed by every member of the public whether it be the café, pop-up store or descending atrium however as we move upward the access is limited to students and professors of Interior Design.
Exterior Elevation Drawings
Through this image you can see what the two long sides of the building looks like. On the side facing oncoming vehicles we have our angular core protruding outwards. The core houses all services within and also acts as a billboard for the school. The other side has protruding windows that connects the new school via views to the existing architecture school.
Wall Sections
Throughout the project vertical planes are treated as an element that would heighten every individual’s experience. A wall could be a storage unit, a light fixture, interactive screen, and a seating area and in this image, you can see details of two such vertical planes : Pop-up space and Display Units.

Hangout Space
The hangout space is located on the ground floor and acts as a “bridge” between the pop-up space and the café. The organic tiered steps allows more space for various seating arrangements. The grey wall on the left side of the image acts as a walk-in storage room to store away seating in case the space needs to cleared out for activities or talks.
Café Space
The café is located on the ground floor. The yellow versus wood flooring is used to define the continuous circulation space versus the café area.
Terrace Interior
The terrace floor interior contains a classroom that is open to above alongside a lounge area with a VR space where students can plug in their project and experience it in VR.
Terrace Exterior
The terrace floor exterior is open to above and contains another hangout area, this space could also be used to host student events.
