THE FRAGRANT GARDEN
Taking inspiration from the space envelope, the house is series of solid horizontal planes and a central void, the courtyard - tied together by vertical elements: the stair, the slide and the tree. The long layout is divided into 3 parts: the front of the form which receives light, breeze, visitors, and sleeping quarters; the central courtyard.
Project Media
3 or more generations living in one household have different requirements to live comfortably, especially the grandparents. The living space must be able to accommodate for low mobility and be designed to prevent falls. At present the sitting area on Level 1 is designed to be a rentable space, supplementing the income of the family.
• The slide connects the levels, encouraging the users an alternative option of movement with ease and enjoyment, moving from the roof down to Level 1. • Abundant light and breeze, using a brise soleil block on the front and the upper 2 levels at the back. The concrete cinder block along with its shade-making abilities, also provides consistent ventilation.
• The presence of foliage, which apart from providing visual relief, is also a cooling element and other plants such as the jasmine (“motia”/ “chameli”) provide fragrance throughout the day. • Passive energy systems using potable, rain and rain water recycling, nestled comfortably in the functional block. • A “groceries basket” accessible from all balconies
