امروزه مساله‌ي انرژي به مساله‌ي اصلي جهان تبديل شده است و دولت‌ها با تبيين برنامه‌هاي بلند مدت سعي در كاهش مصارف سوخت‌هاي فسيلي دارند. طبعاتي كه زمين، از اين ازدياد مصرف متحمل شده است ابعاد گسترده‌اي، مانند گرمايش زمين و آلودگي‌هاي زيست محيطي را شامل شده است؛
