Briefing Whispers Of Time: Revitalizing Khulna Old Railway Station Through Acclimatization
Built in 1884, Khulna’s Old Railway Station is a historic landmark that once thrived as the city’s lifeline but now lies neglected. Whispers of Time proposes its revival through acclimatization—sensitively adapting the station to present needs while preserving its heritage. Five existing buildings will be reprogrammed into a library café, railway archives, an open-air gallery, a nostalgic cinema, and guest houses. A central plaza will connect these functions to the riverfront, while repurposed rail wagons will serve as community-run shops. Minimalist interventions, blending contemporary materials with the old fabric, will ensure accessibility, safety, and inclusivity. Managed by the railway authority with local support, the project aims to transform the station into a vibrant cultural hub. This initiative is not only about conserving architecture but also about reviving stories, fostering social bonds, and restoring Khulna’s identity through its heritage.
