Extention : Sustainable housing

The project adds sustainable extensions to the Schammatwiese neighborhood, creating high-quality housing and semi-public communal areas while renovating façades. Using a modular timber system with clay and lime finishes, new apartments integrate into the existing grid. A new building adds barrier-free units, community spaces, and a social hub.

While analyzing the project site, we identified it as a threshold between the expanding city and surrounding nature. Instead of creating a sharp division, we approached sustainability as a unity where urban and natural elements intertwine. Our design reflects this relationship and aims to rethink how city and nature can coexist.

Arrayed in red cast concrete, the Chromatic House creates spatial opportunities that scale from the individual to the familial through a composition of tapering, prismatic voids and volumes, and an expansive embrace of a large private garden.
