Circular Economy
Architecture and design projects that reuse, reclaim, and regenerate materials, buildings, and urban waste within closed-loop systems.
A circular economy keeps materials, components, and buildings in use for as long as possible, replacing the linear take, make, waste model. For designers, this shifts attention to reuse, demountable assembly, material passports, and designing structures whose parts can be recovered rather than demolished.Community work under this topic includes demountable gardens built from rubble and tires, pavilions made from upcycled and fractal timber, and conversions of obsolete offshore structures into carbon capture museums. Projects also address food systems, algae-based environments, and urban waste streams such as graffiti and aquatic infrastructure.
