THE FINAL MEMORIAL
The spherical structure ensures that the context is applied: the earth, the planet we have inhabited for millions of years - that we are now actively making less habitable for everything which lives on it. Vibrant foliage and greenery, tall waterfalls and cooler shaded spaces offer refuge from the intense dry heat outside.
An absolutely overwhelmingly iconic structure that would probably cost $5bn to construct if not more, and one might argue that this money could be better spent in saving several animal species from extinction. But if there will be a kickstarter to get this going I will definitely support with my humble donation.
Fantastic design. I appreciated its simple yet strong geometrical shape which metaphorically indicates the Earth. I would think the proposal could be stronger if there were more information of the interior spaces showing the experience of the visitors.

I appreciated the great visualizations and aesthetics of the proposal. However, the shape should be designed corresponding more to your idea. The existence of walls are especially important for this proposal which should be designed more carefully.
The Non-Memorial
This project aims to transcend traumatic memory imposed in the physical monumental space, by creating a space for social reconciliation through storytelling. Embracing the scars of war and subtly subverting these memories of war into beams of hope.
It is great that the designer is proposing all the components to be made off site and to be made out of recycled materials. That could really be a beacon of hope as a first monument made out of 100% recycled materials whilst being quite monumental. The design still needs some work though.

Definitely iconic structure. Would be interesting to also reverse the concept and show with this pool the draining of the drinking water where eventually it is all dried out and just an empty concrete box with stairs leading to nowhere. That may be more impactful than the raising water level.
Great design with strong shape that reminds the monuments of ancient Egypt.
It's definitely lovely simple and visually strong design, however talking about the concept, perhaps this idea would work better in a context where the roof is more contrasting with the surroundings. Now it's patch of elevated sand on top of sandy landscape. For example, a patch of empty land as a contemplative empty space within a bustling metropolis, or at the edge of a forest might be more emotion-evoking (?)
The Relic
The Relic is a proposal for an architectural symbol of resilience, survival, optimism, learning and art regarding our earth. A destination for people coming from all over the world to learn and truly understand just how magnificant our earth is, how much climate change is hurting our planet and the measures being taken to resolve this issue.
The Panic Pillar and Museum of Climate Change
Unlike typical memorials which codify previous events, the climate memorial has the added expectation of influencing peoples actions for the future. The urgency required ignores past needs for architecture to be aesthetic; instead, it spatially demands the confrontation of the uncomfortable and critical, both by individuals and a watching global audience.
Seems like a lot of concrete used, and lot's of CO2 produced creating the underground facilities. I do like the sense of anxiety that this leaning post evokes. Does communicate a message of a threatening future. Perhaps the structural supports could be made with something that reacts with CO2 and eventually when earth is too polluted this thing just collapses?
Timeless Variation
Between ephemeral architecture and eternal homage, we do not know what will continue to exist in this memorial. By traversing this memorial, the visitor becomes spectator of the degradation of humans interventions, the witness of the Earth’s capacity to regain its rights. Inscriptions in stone aim to raise awareness climate change hazard around the world.
Great that the project designer thinks of using local materials and low impact solutions for this memorial.
The Scar
Very artistic and quite monumental indeed. A place I would like to visit and experience.
Great idea to create underground spaces with clear metaphor of Scar on Earth. I wanted to know more about how you create the "Scar" in the desert, which sandy lands constantly changes. I think the project could be much more unique and strong if the idea were responding to this specific Egyptian context.
Anti-Permanence: A Floating Monument That Refuses to Stay Still
Three designers propose a cantilevered steel canopy that drifts across San Francisco Bay, challenging the monument's static nature.
It’s a very good idea. In terms of execution is so simple which increases its effect. At the same time it modifies the space interacting with pedestrian’s movement. These two ideas linked by the french music create a compact and a really very well done project. In our opinion there are so much views explaining the same idea which decreases the strong points of the work.
I would have liked to have seen the project move beyond a symbolic gesture toward a lived reality. In other words, how could this - what appears to be a very large totem - support more democracy? The interactive element requires 15 people, in total 150, as a historic representation of a protest in the past. What are the implications for protest today and in the future?
