Narrating Emotions through Architecture - The memory of 26/11

Khalil Taleeslami
Juror

A powerful and sensitive memorial thesis that translates collective memory into a meaningful spatial journey. Further technical refinement of the experiential strategies could make this already compelling proposal even more convincing.

Narrating Emotions Through Architecture - The Memory of 26/11

A memorial museum where the memory of 26/11 is embedded within architecture. Situated on the shoreline where the ten gunmen entered Mumbai. Through light, materiality, movement, and sensory experiences, it honours loss, courage, and resilience, allowing memory to be deeply felt rather than merely observed.

Creating Livability Within Urban Environment

The urbanization has led to the imbalance in open/built environment ratio, taking over the necessary public spaces in Karachi that effects the quality of life. With less public spaces left in the city, the objective is to make the remaining open spaces so impactful that it becomes a way to compensate the negative effect of decreasing open environment.

The Gap

The concept of the skyscraper is based on the idea that the skyscraper should engage with the city. This is done by connecting the now two separate buildings together with bridges, a vertical connection throughout the whole building open to the public. The gap allows for social interactions and an open connection from one side of the plot to the other.

Julia King

I would have liked to have seen this project move from a symbolic gesture, to think about what it means to really commit - through architecture - to the migration crisis we see in the Mediterranean.

Journey to Recovery

Many people live with hardly controllable emotions that arise from various unexpected events in their lives. Among these emotions, inevitable depression and frustration weigh on us. However, in modern society, there are many restrictions to express these dark emotions outwardly. So we wanted to create a pavilion on our site that would help people experience.

Vessel to Neverland

The idea is to invent Neverland, or a vessel, anchored in the sea of crowds and modern rhythms, a modern vessel but, at the same time, conceived through the use of materials that belong to tradition, or surfaces and decorations that refer to tradition but made with current techniques, resistant and easy to maintain.
