Beegraphy's Computational Design Challenge Series

Worldwide

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Beegraphy Workshops are designed to immerse participants in the world of computational design, providing hands-on experience with Beegraphy’s powerful tools. Each workshop focuses on different aspects of design and manufacturing, equipping participants with the skills to create innovative and impactful designs. Through a series of structured sessions, participants will explore the fundamentals of parametric design, apply advanced techniques, and create real-world applications.

The workshops will cover a wide range of topics, from foundational parametric design principles to advanced applications in various design fields. Participants will engage in interactive sessions, learning how to leverage Beegraphy’s tools to enhance their creativity and efficiency. The workshops aim to inspire and empower participants to push the boundaries of traditional design and embrace the possibilities of computational design.

STRUCTURE

Each workshop is divided into several parts, focusing on specific design topics and techniques. Each session concludes with practical applications, allowing participants to apply what they have learned in real-world scenarios. Participants will have the opportunity to work on individual and group projects, with guidance from expert tutors. The workshops are designed to be interactive and collaborative, encouraging participants to share ideas and learn from each other. The goal is to provide a comprehensive learning experience that combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills.

  2. Parametric Design Theory and Beegraphy Basics Part-I: Explore the fundamentals of parametric design, including an introduction to parametric design principles, an overview of Beegraphy’s interface and basic functionalities, and creating and managing projects in Beegraphy. Participants will also learn to build simple parametric models and understand parameters and constraints in design.

  3. Beegraphy Basics Part-II: Learn advanced navigation and selection tools, efficient use of variables to control designs, and how to utilize Beegraphy’s pre-built components. The session also covers tips for optimizing model performance, reducing complexity, and troubleshooting common issues and mistakes.

  4. Parametric Art & Collectibles: Apply knowledge of parametric design to create sculptures and artifacts. This session includes converting a base design concept into a parametric model, creating dynamic doubly-curved surfaces, applying different materials, multi-user file sharing, online collaboration, and exporting models in various formats.

Beegraphy Workshop 2: Lighting and Urban Design

Date: Saturday, August 10, 2024 (Event LInk)

  1. Parametric Lighting Design: Learn to create parametric design concepts for indoor lighting fixtures, using contouring and waffle structures. This session also covers integrating functional details like fixing mechanisms within aesthetic design, using Voronoi and Boolean operations to achieve unique forms, and parametrically modifying apertures to control light output.

  2. Urban Furniture & Installations: Focus on designing modular urban furniture by understanding human ergonomics, identifying external environmental parameters affecting human comfort, responding to physical conditions using a sample context, and creating parametrically adaptable furniture that fits in various locations.

  3. DIY & Engineering: Learn to create customizable objects for rapid prototyping, understanding the affordances and limitations of 3D printing, and using 3D slicing software to generate g-code for fabrication.

Beegraphy Workshop 3: Fashion and Home Design

Date: Saturday, September 7, 2024.

  1. Fashion & Jewelry Design: Explore parametric fashion and accessory design, including creating patterns and variations, applying fabrication logic to forms, and printing and creating bespoke accessories.

  2. Furniture & Home Furnishing: Discover computational design in furnishing, logic building for form creation, and exploring new approaches to joinery, modularity, and customization.

  3. Education through Computational Design: Learn to design interactive educational modules, simplify complex concepts using computational design, and explore case studies of impactful educational tools.

Beegraphy Workshop 4: Dynamic and Architectural Design

Date: Saturday, October 5, 2024

  1. Dynamic Structures: Generate dynamic forms with parametric methodologies, customize repetitive parts and modules, and simulate dynamic forms through scripting.
