Steffen Welsch

Director, STEFFEN WELSCH ARCHITECTS PTY LTD, Australia

Growing up in former East Germany, Steffen Welsch came to architecture from left field. He liked buildings but was always interested in our environment as a whole – social, economic, political, built and natural. With almost 30 years’ experience as an Architect in Australia, he combines his professional capacity with his community involvement. Together with others he founded a bi-lingual primary school in Melbourne, Australia; and today he is one of the coordinators of “Australian Architects Declare”, a declaration of architects committing to climate action through professional practice. Being the driver behind projects within his studio he fosters a collaborative design and delivery approach that extends beyond his own practice.
