19WinnerWeaving WaterOur final habitat consists of several prototype cities and resource sharing pipelines. The prototype city is a giant water intake and catchment itself. The residential area is distributed on the surface of the spherical city.
18Honorable MentionSandcrete CityThe construction of the worlds first Sandcrete City is a response to the Global Sand Crisis currently sweeping the construction industry. The project explores the potential of constructing a self-sustaining city using only natural materials found in the Mauritanian desert, and aims to be a catalyst for a more innovative and responsible future.
11Honorable MentionThe Nomadic Nest of SaharaThe design is intended to find a construction that based on local materials and adapted to the desert living environment through the study of ?Saharan traditional tectonic? and ?modern temporary construction technology?.With reference to modern structures and materials, find the current and future desert living patterns.
9Honorable MentionSahara FortopiaSahara Fortopia is a fort to protect people from harsh climate conditions and a utopia of natural environment as an oasis in the desert. The main idea is to combine the course of Industrial modular habitat construction and the import of controllable natural environment, eventually create a huge complex ?world?.
142People's Choice AwardHexagon CityHexagon City challenges the norm by using materials at hand at the building side, by making optimal use of the land and by applying low-tech solutions to supply the city with durable energy, water, shade and cooling.Although it can be added we do not prefer high-tech solutions for their need of scarce raw materials.
13People's Choice AwardMIGRATING BEHEMOTHSWe hope to learn from nature and try to design a building that can move around, satisfying the needs for desert survival and providing a new lifestyle of a migrating city. We want to build an ancient behemoth as follows.
0CommunitasBy designing a venue for festivals all over the world, a consistent communitas emerges when festivals where the liminality is produced by rites, take place around the clock.
4Nature sprawlHistorically, human beings and nature were considered separately. In this project, human beings and nature are treated as equal. We live just in the same site but with difference of height. Human will be always concious about the nature and the habitats of nature will be protected as natural. Each function spreads as necessary, so the nature is kept forever.
5THE VALLEYThe purpose of the project is to provide Sahara inhabitants with a shelter that will make the living possible. It is why the core issue of the project is to move all human related functions underground, where the temperature is bearable enough to live.
6Coexistence - city in Daya IrijiSaharan terrain has been created from complex relations between ground, wind, water and sun and to ensure safe habitance in the city we must not break the delicate balance. Building the new city in coexistence with nature is the core concept of the project.
3The Anti-PelagoOur world grows with the population dramatically and there are negative impacts on the quality of lives resulted by overpopulation, and The Sahara Desert is chosen to be the site for the conceptual development of habitat.
0THE FOOTPRINTSFootprints on Sahara desert that left by both nature and human beings is like a ?link?. The design aims to create a variety of social relations for human live in extreme environments like Sahara desert. The harmony between nature and human beings will be considered in the design.
13Growing My Life - EHCTransforming the existing nomadic society to a more stable mixed society through designing built environment. The proposed mixed society is formed by agricultural economy and new architectural space. It is different from traditional agricultural society, that the farm land is apart form living space, but become to be part of architecture itself.
4THE DESERT ATLANTISThe Desert Atlantis - the proposed prototype habitat design correlates the lost ideal city of Atlantis and the Eye of the Sahara as its backdrop with the technologically advanced Hyperloop system as its core .
3Respiratory Root ProjectThe keywords of our design are life and connection. The pursuit of our design is the romantic concept of turning desert into sea. We take the approach of modularization design: the entire habitat is composed of basic units - the towers, the shape and functions of which are inspired from the aerial roots of banyan and respiratory roots of metasequoia.
5Seed City:Wadi Al-HitanBy planting "cities" underground, the space and time of resource regeneration are freed for the surface environment to balance the overuse of resources, and how to achieve sustainable human habitat design in the extreme environment of Sahara in the future is discussed.
19Technological City of the SunThe technological city of the sun is the prototype of a modern city in the desert. The project uses the latest technology to adapt to the lives of people, animals and plants.
3Revival. Vernacular Architecture. We are living in the world of climatic crisis. Our goal is to minimize embodied energy of the building life cycle. We believe that the best way to do it is by using vernacular architecture. We want to hand over the city to the inhabitants. In this project we showcase a module with basic functions, which each family can expand depending on their needs.
1Q-City - EHCThis is a project of a livable city in Sahara, without sacrificing any good qualities and only enhancing the experience of being a citizen there. Moving factors for this project were: 1.Building for people, not for pomp 2.Parks over roads 3.Gardening opportunities 4.Spaces encouraging social interaction 5.No personal transportation 6.City-center "all in one"
2SatoriSatori (meaning sudden enlightenment) is a diverse habitat promising complete harmony. The habitat ensures ecological balance, economic transparency, spiritual freedom and social equality. These are achieved by the use of futuristic technologies. The inhabitants experience zen-like ways of livelihood and an entirely new spatial adventure.
